Because all parents know that it is very important not to wake him up, they usually look at him with love and think about how much they love him. And sometimes they wonder if the baby is dreaming, and what exactly.

Unfortunately, it is not known exactly what babies dream about, but we are sure they do dream! In fact, in the first months and even before birth, REM sleep is at its highest level that it will reach during life.
Rapid Eye Movement (REM) comes from the rapid eye movements that can be observed during sleep. It is estimated that in infants, 40%-70% of sleep is represented by REM, i.e., 8-11 hours a day. Over time, the amount decreases significantly, being 15-20% in adults, i.e., 90-120 minutes per night.

In the last few years, researchers have discovered what mothers have always known: sleep (and especially REM sleep) has numerous benefits. That's why it is extremely important for the baby to have all conditions met so that they can rest: quiet or white noise, darkness, suitable temperature, a Crib comfortable, comfortable clothes, etc.

So it is visible that babies dream because the eye movements during REM sleep are visible. Although sleep is also about rest, there are many more things happening and the benefits are essential for the little ones (but also for the big ones).
- Learning and memory. Studies have shown that both children and adults have difficulties with memory (short-term and long-term) in the absence of REM sleep. During this phase of sleep, important memories are consolidated, and considering how much new information a toddler acquires every day, it is easy to intuit that the duration of sleep will be much longer than in the case of an adult.
- A decree. Probably it's not necessary to explain that a person who hasn't slept enough is not in a very good disposition. The same thing is valid for babies, only they can't express themselves verbally. Mothers always say that if the little one doesn't sleep enough, he is irascible, whiny, or simply uncooperative. REM sleep helps small children to be more adaptable and communicate more efficiently, both verbally and non-verbally.
- The brain development. The neural connections are extremely important for the little ones, and during REM sleep they are greatly emphasized.

Unfortunately, parents cannot monitor REM sleep, but a restful and sufficient amount of sleep should be easy to estimate. Considering the benefits, rest and dreams become a priority quickly! Unfortunately, we can't know what little ones dream about, but we hope they're just beautiful, pleasant and entertaining things!
